Googliegoodness!
As mentioned by
sammers in this post, Google has usenet archives online going back to 1981. I was quite interested in this, since Usenet news was my first introduction to the Internet thingy. Back in like 1994.. scary ;) Have a look here for my ffirst ever post to Usenet back in April 94.. after lurking for a few months (I disclaim liability for my actions as a 14 year old ;) Anyway, interesting stuff.
Well today on SlashDot, there was an article about where the archives back to the 80s came from. I thought they would have got a bunch tape backups of usenet off a bunch of people and sorted them out from that.. but apparently not. Someone had been saving them. Someone named David Wiseman.. a Computer Science lecturer from Western, who taught the most fun class I ever had. It was a real suprise to open the link to the Salon article and see him stareing back :)
See also, my post on slashdot about David. His class really got me where I am today. So cool to see him in a news article on a website :)
