Jan. 26th, 2002 07:32 pmSupport message from my tertiary backup ISP...
We apologize for current unavailability of the 08 9460 2800 dial-in
service. Unfortunately it appears that it will not be restored until
Sunday the 27th January.
The 08 6265 2666 service is NOT affected and should be fully
functional. Please report any difficulties to support.
The explanation is somewhat incredible, but for those interested:
The 0894602800 dial-in service is provided by four PRI (primary rate
ISDN) circuits delivered as four E1 circuits to our dial-in server.
AAPT delivers these to us via LMDS (Local Multipoint Distribution
Service - see http://www.wcai.com/lmds.htm for general information),
specifically over a microwave link between our office and the Central
Park building.
AAPT have informed us that the base station device on top of the Central
Park building has a fault which is affecting our service.
Now it gets quite fascinating. This morning AAPT asked the contracted
maintainer of that equipment, Ericsson, to correct the fault and treat
the matter as urgent. Ericsson reported back to AAPT that they had been
denied access to the Central Park rooftop because of the fireworks setup
on there for the "Skyshow" [fireworks]tonight. They've been told they'll be
allowed access after clean-up tomorrow (Sunday).
Our warmest regards to Central Park management.
Despite all of this, I hope all of you have or did have a very enjoyable
Australia Day.
