Aug. 21st, 2002 07:22 amInnnnnnnteresting.. thru a series of comments, I worked out that I actually saw
seraphim_muso on the Bus last friday! Weird :) I wasn't sure so I didn't say anything. I'd just seen her LJ pic too.
Co-worker had her last day on Monday and flew off to Singapore, while getting over a nasty cold. Flying when you have a cold is not good fun at all. She had a few jobs that she couldn't finish in time which got passed to me and Simon.. one of them she had spent 25 hours on.. I started it again from scratch and had it going in 1 hour. Hmm :/
I also did some work on our web proxy at work yesterday.. made a CGI interface for students to use to check what their balance is, and changed the error message so it was a little more friendly when they had gone over quota. There had been a "Coming Soon" message on the myEE webpage since Feburary .. I figured it was about time I did something about it.. took me an hour :) Lazy Alex :)
Also installed Mathematica for someone.. first time I'd ever had to actually use it. So I had to find the media first, make copies for our safe, then go to the Sun to install it. Except.. oh, when they bought this one they decided to save $74 and not get a CD drive.. so then I go down 5 flights of stairs to my office and grab a CD drive.. open it up.. and oh, since you didn't buy it with a CD drive, we only put a single IDE cable in there.. Blah. So closed it back up, locked it back up and went back down stairs to get an IDE cable.. then I was able to install it and it all went well. Bah! And yes, I did try sticking it in another j00nix box and NFS mounting it.. the installer was doing something that made NFS die. The poor guy I was installing it for.. back in mid June he asked for it to be installed.. It took us 3 weeks to actually get a copy of the CDs.. and then due to miscommunication (guess who did the original job? I'll give you a hint, she's in singapore right now..), it was installed on a server, which he didn't have an account on. It took him 3 weeks to get back to us to tell us this too, by which stage his work request had been signed off as complete, so he had to complete another one, which is sorta his fault. So then, it gets installed on another Sun.. he got a week's use out of it before the Sun got moved to Murdoch. Doh! So I did this install pretty quick because I felt a bit sorry for him.
Today.. dunno what I'll be up to. But then, if we knew the future, where would the excitement in life be? :)
