Oct. 19th, 2002 11:23 pmReasonably long time no post.. the last 72 hours have been very busy.
Thursday night Sue came around and we hung out for a bit, so consequentially I didn't get to sleep until late..
slept in on friday morning .. got to work at about 10AM. Did a few hours work, then helped with getting stuff ready for the 100 PhD party on Friday night. Went to pre-dinner speeches and was mildly amused, then went back to work for a bit, then played some medal of honor multiplayer gaming. Met Sue and we went off to the 100 PhD dinner. Had some pre dinner drinks and then mingled our way into the main dining area. We wisely chose the table that got served second, after the "high roller" table. Dinner was yummy.. tomato soup for entree, then chicken with ham and cheese and lovely white sauce for mains, then profiterols for dessert, followed by a cheese plate. At the table was me, sue, simon-coworker, simon-coworker's partner belinda, tom (my boss) and his wife, stuart the lab tech and bruce the postgrad. The only sucky part of the dinner was like a 25 minute speech for the 90 year old founder of the department, which was boring as all fuck. Thankfully Bruce was making snide but hilarious comments every minute or so. Afterwards Sue said "It must be a hoot to work with these people every day.. but how do you get any work done?". Heheh
Didn't get much sleep last night, but that's ok :) Had some breakfast, did some cleaning up.. went back to sleep.. woke up at 4PM. Went into town so I could go to Grahame's birthday party via train.. but it was too early, so I went to visit cousins instead. who live nearby. Tho not terribly close to the train lines.. so I walked thru the cemetary to their place.. about a kilometre or so thru winding roads in a cemetary at dusk.. was a bit freaky, cause there's NO-ONE else around. But my faith in my sense of direction is regained, I came out a block away from cousin's place.. the closest I could get. Yay. I was expecting to need to walk another 15 minutes or so.. not 30 seconds. And I met my aunt in the street as she was coming back from a walk. Hung out with cousins for a bit, then aunt dropped me off at Grahame's place as she went out to pick up cousin-simon.
Grahame's party was pretty good.. saw some people I knew, met some more. All good fun. Met Grahame and Avril's ducks Qwerty, Bob and Baldrick. Bob and Baldrick are Appleyards, and Qwerty is a muscovy cross.. he's actually a good looking duck. Anyway.. missed the train home by like 30 seconds, so I had to wait another half an hour for the next one.. but to stop being bored to death, I walked to the next station, which took about 20 minutes.. it was fine for most of the way, a nice lit pathway.. except for the last kilometre or so, which was dark and unmarked.. but I got there eventually :) Train got into the central station about 2 minutes before my bus left.. if I missed that, it would have been another half hour.. so I ran the 200 metres or so it was, and got on the bus *just* in time.. like, 10 seconds longer and I would have missed it.
My god.. exercise.. oh how I had missed you ;) Hehe. More sleeping in tomorrow, then more cleaning up, then mum gets home Sunday night. Next week is look pretty quiet for now, Jenny gets back the week after. Must try not to break her desk in half again before then ;)
