Heheh slashdot funny
Nov. 27th, 2002 06:43 amOn slashdot, comments get moderated up or down one point per moderator, to tthe maximum of +5. All registered users' comments are initially scores +1. If you make a lot of lame comments and they are persistantly moderated down (bad karma), you only post at score 0. If you make a lot of comments that are moderated well, you get to post at +2 (good karma), which makes your comments stand out more and thus more likely to get scored higher.. I've been around slashdot for a while, so my karma is "excellent", so I can post at +2 if I want. They're up to about 600,000 users.. I'm user 31,462.
In reply to a story on slashdot, someone made a comment about India being smarter than the US for their views on opensource/free software..I made a cheeky "If you say that, the terrorists win!" comment, and cause I really meant for only the initial poster to see it, I didn't post at +2, only +1...
except two people saw it and gave a "Funny" moderation, which made it's score be +3. And then someone didn't think it was funny, and gave it an "Overrated" moderation so it went down to +2 .. and then someone else saw that it had been given an "Overrated" moderation, and disagreed and gave it an "Underrated" moderation, which meant it went back up to +3.
Heh!
