Long time no post. Hallo Journal.

Last night we crazy residents had arranged a thanksgiving party, which was all good, and I was going to stick around and have fun, but I got a call from Patrick, (a friend from primary school, high school, shares the same birthday with me and lives across the road) telling me that someone we knew from primary school, Juan. I hadn't seen or heard from Juan in probably 11 years, and he was only in town until Saturday, so yeah, I went to catch up with him instead.. called another PS friend, Chris, who I really should keep in better contact with, and we all met up in Fremantle for a bit of catchup and talking about old times. Much fun :) Juan was a really good friend, but then he moved to Queensland. I caught up with him once over there, but then they moved and I lost touch with him. I often wondered what happened to him.. he turned out pretty much as I expected :) He was the one who first told me about Weird Al Yankovic, and we were both tragic Vanilla Ice fans. Ahh so many memories.

While I did run off pretty early, I was around Cook St for a little bit of the evening, so I saw some of the guests, which was all good. Heh! This really is a fun place to live, for so many reasons. I must point to housemate Ben's livejournal, [livejournal.com profile] benmurrihy, where he talks about reading fanfic. Housemate [livejournal.com profile] stephiepenguin says she must talk to him to help him find the good stuff. To quote, "it's like when your friends are doing crack, you want to make sure they don't buy it from people who mix it with washing powder". Hehe. To be clear of course, stephie, as far as I know, doesn't do crack. No dragon chasing for her.

Work is starting to get busy, or at least it's seeming that way. I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to things I care about.. and there's so many things going on which I want to see done well and not just "done" and so I am doing them.. all of them. Then there's day to day stuff as well.. Tom seems to be noticing this and not assigning me as much stuff to do, which is helpful to say the least. We have a list of projects for next year on a sheet of paper. I've highlighted the things I'm doing or doing parts of, and the paper almost glows in the dark now. Heh. Also work related, got a nifty email from the head of school saying well done for screwing cisco down from $82k to $56k for some network upgrades ;) Yes, I must say I think I did pretty well there. It's also now pretty much certain that we will be getting all the goodies I wanted. Eeexcellent. (4 x 3750-24T-S, 26 x 2950-24T :D), meaning our network will be *entirely* cisco, apart from 3 x allied telesyn gigE media converters, giving a total of 31 x 24+2 port 100BaseT/1000BaseT switches and 4 x 24 port 1000BaseT switchrouters (tho only two of them will actually route). It'll be swoit mate. And a fair bit of work I imagine, but it's all good ;)

Today I'm skiving off earlish and going into the city to buy some salad bowls, and then back to north perth to make salad for [livejournal.com profile] drabbo's thanksgiving dinner tonight, then probably catching a taxi to [livejournal.com profile] drabbo's place with them.. depends on what sort of bowls I can get really. Yay for public transport ;p Tomorrow as other housemates have mentioned, is Shig and Meryki's wedding, so I'll probably be back to north perth tomorrow too to pick up some good clothes ;) I don't have anywhere to hang stuff here, which is a bit of a problem for times like this, but I wear shirts with buttons on so irregularlly that in practise it isn't too bad ;)

And now, to hang out washing!

Electronics goods that can't recognise when their batteries are getting flat. Cases in point, my mobile phone, palm tungsten and canon g2. They all claim to have battery level monitoring in them. They all have three levels in them. My mobile phone, for example, has "battery full", which means it works, "battery not totally full", which means it'll turn off randomly in the middle of phone calls, and "empty". The palm is slightly better, but it just drops huge amounts over the course of a day, and then, that which most craps me, my digital camera. It has "battery full", which means it works well, then there's "battery warning", which means I have 5 shots left before the battery gives out, and then empty. How difficult can it be?

Another thing that slightly craps me off, my dad called last night, and surprise surprise I was not home. I talked to him on monday night on ICQ, he was going to call me then, but it just got later and later and then he says "I'll call you tomorrow", then says wednesday, so I actually stayed home both those nights.. and he doesn't call, instead calling on thursday. The previous three times you actually said you were going to call? I was home. the time you did? I wasn't. Not majorly peeved, but something to keep in mind ;)

Not to be all negative, something that amuses and warms the heart was someone saying last night as I was leaving; "Oh no, my man is leaving!.. wait, I mean hero.. wait.. erm" :)

And now to work, to smite the infidels and restore order to the universe. Until 3PM at least.
