So work has been a little worrying lately.. Someone did A. I made a call to do X instead of Y. Because we did X, we got Z, but it means that we wouldn't have much luck if we did Y. Unfortunately, the Z we got wasn't exactly enough, so some people are suggesting we should have done Y in the first place. Fortunately, the powers that be seem to agree with me that X was the appropriate route to take, and that Z is probably better than whatever we'd get from Y. However, the people who are B from A want us to do Y, and reasonably enough, but I don't think it's the appropriate thing to do, since we need Z to be able to B correctly. What is A,B,X,Y,Z? Yeah, well I can't tell you that.
In other news, Lucent firewalls are the devil. I put some of subnet P onto it tonight, but the rules we all agreed on didn't work, and it was late, so we ended up just putting an "Allow all" rule in for now. Less of a concern than the first thing, since we can easily review and tweak the settings now that it's on there, but still, annoying that we weren't able to finalise it tonight in the scheduled downtime. Subnet P is related to a certain project, which is due to go live real soon now, and they're working out things like how it's actually going to be managed. Its implementation has been done pretty well, but no concerns seem to have been given to on-going management. Yay planning. Of course, without preconceived notions of how it's going to work, we can waltz in and say "you didn't think of any of this? right, you have no time, we're the right people, we'll do it".
Also,
grahame and I completed the implementation of an evil project we've been working on for the last 4 months. Yay evil projects. Ok, it's not actually that evil. It's just providing a logical extension of a data framework we have to provide some neat functionality. Also, tomorrow we have a party in the new offices. I say offices, but it's just a big empty space. We're working on that. Next meeting for the implementation working party is on Friday.
Slightly non work related, but the co-lo box is in now, and as soon as I find the username and password for my domain registry, I'll be moving my domains over. The new site will include public posts from here syndicated in with RSS. Yay RSS. I'm also pondering registering another domainname with godaddy, since they seem to be pretty good and cheap.
