So I'm about to head off out of Hong Kong. I am reminded of the last time I was sitting and waiting in this airport, some 9 years ago, on my way to Toronto and my year at Western. A lot has certainly changed since then.

Both looking introspectively and at this airport. Back in 1998 (August 22), it had just been opened several weeks beforehand, and was still being completed. Hong Kong had only been handed over to China a year before. Things seem a lot more polished now. I remember laughing to myself at the jackie-chan wannabies (srsly, dark mirrored sunglasses and everything) they had as security here back then. They now have a proper guard force, and wandering police (with berets!) and machine guns.

All in all, HHK has stood up to the 9 years of wear pretty well.

BRB, plane.
