Sydney..

So, we're almost done with Sydney Town.

Spent a lot of yesterday not far from the hotel, as the weather was (and indeed, still is) shite. Went to the powerhouse museum, which was pretty cool, but many of the interactive exhibits seemed dated, and full of mystery-meat navigation.

Met up with Elizabeth, and went off to vote for the WA State Election. There was a pre-polling done at the NSW electoral commission until last night.

After voting, we caught the train from Wynyard to Central, and then walked to Glebe to meet up with Lisa D, someone I met at WWDC07. She doesn't work for Apple anymore, and now is the head engineer for Yahoo!7's website or something like that (au.yahoo.com).

Frightening, but given I know people with root and responsibilities for www.google.com and www.ebay.com, among others, it's not that unusual, but it's still odd going out to dinner with people who are the on-call staff responsible for some of the web's biggest brands.

Anyway, we had Nepalese for dinner, followed by gelato at Glebe's Broadway shopping centre. Lisa also gave us free tickets to Taronga Park Zoo. We were planning to go today, but see also weather. Tomorrow hopefully. Today we went to Newtown and wandered around. Saw the Sandringham Hotel and many other cool places, including a few retro shops.

But first, an interlude

So, while browsing through one of the retro shops, I spotted a bunch of TVs, with the PYE one (second TV shown) on top. Upon talking to the proprietor, it is indeed the one featured in that advert. He apparently didn't know it was his TV till he saw a kid whistling at it (like in that Ad) and saw he'd recently rented it to Foxtel. Ha. Apparently he and most of those other stores do a great business renting stuff to TV companies for retro shots.

Tomorrow plans: Walk to Train station, train to circular quay, ferry to taronga park zoo, back to hotel, taxi to airport, fly home, sleep.
