Just a quick post to let everyone know that we made it to Switzerland safely. The almost 13 hour flight couldn't have been better. An almost brand new plane (777-300ER) flying at about 10% pax capacity. I had a short nap in the middle of the flight. Apparently there's not much demand for a mid-week flight from Singapore to Zurich. Who knew?

Watched Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls, Get Smart, Speed Racer (turned off midway through, sucked a lot) and In The Line of Fire, as well as some Family Guy, Simpsons, Flight of the Conchords, The Mighty Boosh and My Name is Earl (Did I mention it was a 13 hour flight?)

Also, I always get a bit of a rush flying over Afghanistan.

Our hotel room is cosy, but nicer than the one in London in 2006 which was really really cosy..

Zurich

This photo says it all (but click through for the Zurich photoset so far). We're in Zurich, and it's Autumn. Wandered around the waterfront in the morning, periodically hopping on open/public Wifi networks using iPod touch to use email to make arrangements for the day.

Elizabeth and I then went up to Google Zurich and met up with Packrat. Had the tour of the facilities. Had lunch courtesy of Google too - apparently Packrat named the cafeteria - Milliways. Packrat also named the three tech talk areas, "Share", "And" and "Enjoy". His group's servers at EE were "Share" and "Enjoy" and the printer was "and".

Photos of the place are up here - http://picasaweb.google.com/zurich.office.images/ZurichOfficePhotos - I didn't take them, as our visit was under NDA. To the point of being suggested not to look at some of the things on the walls.

I must say, they seem to like Village living here, as Zurich doesn't actually seem very big. Maybe 5 days was a bit much, but we'll use it all for planning the rest of the trip and recovering from jet lag I suppose.

Another thing.. people go everywhere with their dogs here.

You know, everywhere.

Shops have hitching posts outside for dogs. You see people in business suits walking through downtown Zurich with their dog. There is currently a guy in the lobby of the hotel with two giant black standard poodles.

In other dog news, while out for a walk this morning, we came across a random corgi with no owner in sight. He seemed to know where he was going though.
