Looking through eBay at lenses for my camera, I cam across this "1600mm" beast. Ok, so it's an f/8.0 mirror lens with a 2x teleconverter .. it'd be good for planes, during the day.. sometimes. And at AUD$333 + shipping, what's not to like?

Well, now I'm no mechanical engineer, but I suspect the arrangement shown here is a good way to rip your lens mount out of your camera, the lens mount probably not being able to support much more weight that the camera body, the assumption being you mount the lens on the tripod if it is any heavier.. :

If I got it, I think I'd have to fashion some form of tripod mount to go around the teleconverter, like an aluminium block with tripod thread in the bottom and a hole in the middle for the teleconverter.. (or as [livejournal.com profile] drabbo suggested, get one of these).
