Specifically, some of them don't like Steve Jobs. So for 8 years they've been trying to stop him tearing down a house of debatable historical importance that he owns on a large rural property, so he can build one he likes and will live in.
Firstly, they claim as it was built in the 1920s by a copper magnate, William Jackling, it is of historical importance. Of course, the copper magnate's company is establishing a museum to him, and it doesn't want the house. Then they claimed he should try to sell it. All the offers were basically "Steve, you front up the money to buy a new site, move the house, we'll project manage it and give you a portion of the proceeds". Then there's been claims of architectural merit - and there really isn't any to this property. It is _ugly_.
Then there's people trying to make the council drag Steve through the courts over not having the right permits for what he wants to do. Here's some news for them - by all accounts, including the courts, he does have the right permits, but more importantly, he personally has more money than the council. It's not serving anyone's best interests to keep this up. Just let him knock down the house and build one that will a masterpiece of architecture and will be more historically significant than some long dead copper magnate.
Sheesh.
