Mmm MacBook

As predicted, Apple has released a MacBook. Alex's 25 word or less review:

- OMG Black, but $189 more?
- GMA950 integrated graphics, as I predicted = graphic chip not falling off logic board ftw
- Glossy 1280x800 screen! squee!
- MiniDVI to VGA, DVI adaptors are optional extras now
- GigE is cute
- 60W MagSafe is a bit annoying.. means we couldn't swap and change between my 85W MacBook Pro
- USB Modem is not a suprise
- Neither is SATA hard drive
- I hope the optical drive is still 12.7mm vs 9.5mm on MBP
- [livejournal.com profile] mkj points out it's 160gms more than the old iBook. A tiny sub-notebook would be nice, but can't have everything

All in all, I'm glad to see the small-laptop thingy sorted out into just one model. Base model is (edu) $1574.10 vs $1438 for the base iBook

*technically* the 60w adaptor will work with the macbook pro, it just won't be able to charge the battery while burning a dvd, etc. using the 85 watt ps with the smaller compie will work fine, of course.

I have great fear of the power draw of the MBP. I think using a 60W PSU would just slow down the discharge, as opposed to holding it steady ;)

depends on the usage. screen bright, everything active, hammering the cpu and disk and using the superdrive? probably. :)
