The Daily WTF had an article about a small business using hot swap caddies and disks marked 'Monday' 'Tuesday' etc. Every night they'd swap the disk, the raid controller would go off it's face and rebuild the raid 1 array from the other disk.
Unsurprisingly, the 'master' disk didn't like getting thumped every night like that. I'll try and find the article for you.
