I'd like to know how you arrived at your budget of $6000. When I drove my car from Newfoundland to Manitoba in August of 2007, that trip (including accommodations for 4 nights, gas, and meals) cost $1500. Of course, at the time, gas was about $0.20/l more expensive. However, my vehicle was also just three months old, with very good fuel efficiency.
All the same, if I didn't have to be in Halifax for July 2nd to begin my course, I'd probably be attempting a similar trip, albeit from Vancouver to St. John's. My goal is to eventually drive from one coast to the other.
