Dear lazyweb [voip]

Dear Lazyweb,

When we vacate our domicile current domicile and head to my mum's, I'd like to move our old number to a VOIP provider. Can I do this? With this VOIP provider, I'd also like a box I can take to Canada and plug a phone into. What should I use for this?

Engin should be able to do this for you, and sell you hardware which will do what you want too. Cost is $9.95 p/m with them, and outbound local calls to all Australian capitals are 10c each. For an additional $5 p/m you can get additional inbound numbers (so you can be called as a local call from multiple capitals, too).

Oops, sorry. from their FAQ:

"Engin does not yet offer Local Number Portability, you will be allocated a new number with your service."

I know NEC Nextep (as resold by PacNet and others) were doing LNP. I don't know their current rates, though.
