and catching the star-ferry (really cheap!) to the CBD and walking the streets.

... or maybe go to the Po Lin Monastery, where there is a 35m high Budda made from bronze on top of a small mountain. You can catch the cable-car from near Tung Chung MTR Station, which is near the airport. It's worth paying the extra A$10 for the glass-bottomed cable-car.

I had an 8hr layover in Sydney once, about 14 years ago. I vaguely remember sleeping in the terminal. ^^; Uncomfy.

Oh yuck that totally sucks that Cathay was the cheapest way home :( What a lonnnnnnng boring wait. Almost worth getting a hotel room!
