Saw a postgrad today who has been in Hong Kong for the last 3 months.. and he got back today. Last Friday however, an email was sent to all staff from the University's risk manager requesting anyone who has been to Hong Kong for more than 24 hours to stay away from work for 10 days following their return to Australia. Which I think is quite reasonable. I stayed well back from him and have requested he only contacts us by telephone for the next 10 days, which he was happy to comply with. So tomorrow morning I have a meeting with the Head of School to request that this person and his supervisor who is also soon returning from Hong Kong, be formally requested to stay away from the School for up to 10 days. Hong Kong's SARS infection rate is 1 of every 7800 people (S=6840000) vs 1 in 48000 in Toronto (S=4500000). I believe that people who have been in Hong Kong for more than 48 hours immediately prior to their return to the University represent a significant risk and that the risk manager's request be enforced. *dusts off his copy of AS4360 - Australian Standard for Risk Management* :D
Also tomorrow, there is a fire drill for our building, and yours truely is a now a fire warden. My assigned role is crowd control.. so I will move people away from the building into the assembly area and keep them there until the drill is finished.
Hmm so yeah, that's about my day ;>

I've noticed a bit of a PR campaign by TO saying it's almost all medical profession people and hospital patients who are infected so the public is not at risk. They're a bit paranoid over losing tourism money since tourism season is starting very soon, not to mention the cancelled conferences.
