US PoW's rescued
Good to see - The US PoW's who were shown on Iraqi TV have been recovered by US Forces. Also, the pilots of the Apache attack helicopter which ran out of fuel and had to land were with them.
While I'm generally against war, what I'm not against are the troops.. I mean, I don't want them dead anymore than they do.. Which is why sites like StandWithBush.com shit me. Expressing disapproval at home with the war endangers soldiers? Riiiiiight. But hey, it's a free country (PATRIOT, DMCA, COPPA acts excluded ;)
In other news, It looks like Syria is next in line for liberation.. as they have chemical weapons and are harbouring Iraqi military elite, and if Syria gets liberated.. watch out Yemen, Libya and Saudi Arabia.. and if I were a extremist dissident in Pakistan or Iran, I'd be a bit worried too. 100 or so US casualties (and 50 coalition casualities, mostly from the US..) to knock out a 30 year dictatorship in Iraq? By that logic they should be able to do all those countries with maybe 1000 US deaths tops? Cool! Let's roll! :P
Actually, I don't particularlly like their chances in Saudi Arabia, what with Mecca and Medina being there.. that is really likely to piss the entire muslim world off even more. But hey, Saudi Arabia is mostly friendly.. just ask a few Americans who've been held prisoner there, kept in handcuffs with "Made in USA" stamped on them. Iran could probably fight back with some of the 1980's US military hardware they have, courtesy of ol' Ollie North. Ahh sweet irony.
I'm also mildly concerned that Turkey seems to be paying a lot of attention to northern Iraq, as they don't seem to want the Kurds there to establish an independant homeland, as it will only encourage the Kurds in southern Turkey. Sort of reminds me of Russia in Germany after WW2 really.. I guess we'll see if Turkey values EU membership more than crushing Kurds. which is 50/50 in my view ;>
Ok, that's my political commentary for the month ;p
