Aug. 13th, 2002 09:05 pmHad a big ole geeky day today..
Got into work and had a call from Apple waiting for me.. called them back.. apparently they're now being ultra anal about credit card fraud, and wanted me to fax them some sort of proof of my identity and address.. okaaaay. Well considering I'm just buying a keyboard, and I need it pretty urgently, this would have added another day or two onto the amount of time it would take to arrive. Bleh to that. I asked them if this was new and they didn't really answer :P So then I said the magic words "I've ordered from here before and didn't have to do this" .. "Ohhh.. what was your other order number?" "hurm.. lemme find it it.. Wxxxxxxxxxx" "Well, that's fine.. that order wasn't flagged as fraudulent, so you're fine. Should have the keyboard tomorrow or thursday". w00t :D I'm getting one of the white keyboards, so I can see it better at night :D
Anyway, I had to do some actual work today too ;> Cuuuurrrses. Boss asked me to look at this content management program called MySource. The University uses it for their main page, and my boss wants us to start using it for the department's webpage. Fair enough.. so I install it.. and it doesn't work. I get UWA's webmaster Mark to come over, he mutters for a bit and we both decide that since redhat linux sucks, and since the machine was running redhat linux, that must be it.. fair enough. I format my PC and install debian GNU/Linux and it seems to work a bit better.. but I don't see any content.. it seems their mysource installation documentation neglects mentioning the need for HTML formatting files.. like ewps. I was wondering when I had to install them :P Mark did that, and changed a little bit of the php.ini file, and we're good to go. I spent the rest of the afternoon playing with it. It's really really cool. Very cool :)
And then after work, I played quake for about 75 minutes with Simon and Stuart. Nice way to finish the day :)
Made some cous-cous for dinner, with beef and beans. Mmm nice :) My ISP is shitting me too.. it disconnects too often, and at 20c/call, it starts to add up. Must look more into the ADSL stuff they're talking about for UWA staff.. Mmm permanent internet connection *drool*
