Spent most of yesterday at hospital.. initally going up at 8AM since they thought she might be going in in the morning, then she got pushed back to last thing in the evening, then at 5PM they say "sorry, not today.. but first thing tomorrow". The poor thing. Both her and me ;p I had gone home for a few hours at lunch time to take a bit of a break and allow certain people to visit free of my presence. Heh.. and then I saw said person in the hallway on my way back. Oops. He didn't seem terrrribly pleased to see me, but just brushed past without saying anything. I had been stressing out all day about when they were coming to take her in.. and then to find out it wasn't going to happen.. well let's just say I went into a bit of shock, but this was dealt with by going to the cafe and having a nice apple and guava juice and and lots of deep breaths, whereupon I felt much better.

Met up with [livejournal.com profile] drabboand did hard drive changy things.. but in the middle of running Carbon Copy Cloner (which I have done the exact same thing with about 4 other machines before), the machine kernel panics. Oh dear.. am able to see that the new internal disk is in a consistant state, with I am guessing all the data on (about 50GB) but just not enough to actually boot.. old internal disk is in firewire enclosure and now will not boot and even worse, won't even *mount* .. arrrrg. Tried many tools but to no avail.. damn you Panther. Got an update to one of them, but it wouldn't install with the serial number I had. So poor Kim's eMac is offline currently, but I'm going around there again this evening at 8 to give it another go. I've just (yes, at 3:50AM) hax0red the update to install even with my dodgy serial number and that seems to work, so i shall try that. Failing that, I shall take around Panther discs also and install over top of new HDD, which should work nicely. Thoughts to ponder on eMac hard drive changes: 45 screws. It's not easy, but I could do with something to keep me distracted last night. I didn't have any left over when I put it back together either ;) Am not happy with eMac power switch. You can't feel it from the side and it's part of the outside case and connected to the rest of the system by a diabolical tiny connector which goes thru a hole in the EMI sheilding. Also am of the liking that eMacs can also operate in firewire target disk mode.. is very handy.

So because of all the problems, we left Kim's at midnight and got here about 12:20. Had everything worked ok, we would have been back here at 10:30. I had the eMac back together again at 9PM. So much for the early night thing. Yes, also I am awake now. Mhmm. Cool. Also have to be out of here on a bus in a little over 2h45m.

Got to hospital at about 7:15.. hang out with Liz who was fretting a bit towards the time she was due to go because her mum wasn't there yet.. but she got there with about 15 minutes to spare.. we both went down with her to pre-op and all was well, so yes, she's currently having the operation and will be out in about 2 hours or so.. her mum dropped me home and has my mobile number, but for now I'm sleeping

Liz is recovering well and not in too much pain currently, all things being considered. Am so relieved. And tired. But yes, mainly relieved.

If you feel like visiting her, she's currently in Ward G53, Room 1 at SCGH. Ward G53 is in building G, the *Big* building. Follow the signs to the Blue Lifts, then to floor 5 and then ward G53. She needs to have some xrays at some point and other stuff, but should probably be around.
