Three unrelated posts in one
May. 15th, 2008 09:37 amElizabeth's PC's sound no longer works, and the machine BSoD's whenever you try to smell (with software..) any audio hardware. I had a bit of a look, tried some things, and it didn't get any better, so we were going to just turn it off in the BIOS and put in a PCI one, but upon closer inspection, it seems the fan on the Southbridge wasn't spinning. I'm not sure what I can do about it, since finding appropriate replacement fans for them are pretty hard, but we'll see.

Went out for dinner last night with an ollld friend from when I lived in Albany. Was great to catch up with her again. Chutney Mary's is nice enough, but a little expensive.

A month or two ago, our Faculty Computing group had a sundowner and invited along the faculty's academic staff. I got talking to an interesting American guy who was a perpetually visiting academic to our university. He seemed a very jovial and easy to talk to guy, passionate about his work. You know, like the Robin Williams character in Dead Poets' Society.
It was pointed out to me afterward that in fact, he is the guy that Robin William's character in Dead Poets' Society is based on. Ah.
