So.. went to Canberra last Saturday. Spent time hanging out with ![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
lizbyrd's sister, as well as alkland and others. Also saw The Royal Australian Mint (was not awesome, mostly closed for renovation), Australian Parliament House, Australian War Memorial, ANU and Mt Ainslie. I am impressed by how open the Australian Parliament House is. You can just walk in and around unescorted. Which is the way it should be, but still, a pleasant surprise.
Spent yesterday in Sydney, flying in in the morning. Spent some time at the Sydney Airport, plane watching. Saw the Air Canada 777-200ER, QANTAS A380, Singapore A380, V-Australia 777 and other wonderful aircraft that you just don't see in Perth. Caught the train into the city, had some lunch at Bodhi, went to Star Wars at the Powerhouse Museum, then caught up with my old high school friend Marcus, who now happens to be the iPod product marketing guy for Australia/New Zealand. Had nice dinner with him and his partner out at Bondi, and he got us to the Airport through Sydney rush-hour traffic with 15 minutes to spare (before the plane took off..). Precision timing.
Flew into Brisbane, stayed at uncle's place on the 20-somethingth floor of a nice apartment building. Very nice. Got a good night's sleep, then TomTom'ed it to GameDude to buy parts for a new PC for dad. Built PC in the afternoon, now we're finishing stuff off. The old computer was built in 2003 with a 2000 era case. Dad lives close to the beach, so the old computer was totally rusted up. This one will probably suffer the same fate given time, but at least this time it's an Antec instead of some generic thing.
