I forgot to mention.. also yesterday, I found out that this guy from work is going to be on my flight to Japan. Heh! He used to study near where I'm staying, so he said he'ld help me work out how to get to my "hotel", which is cool and helpful. He also has a 17 inch powerbook.. mmm 17 inch powerbook :D

So last night, was a bit bored, so I dragged out the Mac 128k I have in the cupboard. Vintage 1984, this was the first Macintosh released by Apple, and the one I have in my cupboard is actually the first one I used, way way waaay back in 1984. It used to belong to my Grandpa, but then he got my uncle's Mac Plus and I got this one. I drag it out every year or so, just to check that it still works. However over the last year or so, the external floppy drive seemed to have stopped working (notice the tense there? :>) and with the internal one being dead for the last 5 years, this was a slight problem. However I'm me, so 2 hours later, I've stripped, disassembled, regreased and reassembled the drive, and it works again.. tho it doesn't eject entirely quickly as it should, but I'll fix that at some point by rewinding the spring ;) Eeexcellent. At some stage in the future I will do this to the internal drive too. Ahh such memories. I played with MacPaint, just like I had done at age 5 :) and had a bit of a play of Solitare.. playing in black and white is a bit difficult :> So then old faithful Google came out, and I found the guy who wrote it in May 1984and emailed him to say "hey remember this" and got a response! Heh! :)

The whirring of the drive and lack of sound from the system.. ahh the memories of sitting in the back room of my grandparent's farm with the blinds drawn in the halcyon days of the mid 80s. I'm still impressed by the Mac128K. Sure, my desktop machine has 8000 times the RAM (no, really), 10000 times the disk space and runs 100 times faster.. but for 1984, the Mac 128K was amazing. And it's amazing that the thing still works too, 19 years later :)
