After work today, I went around to UCC to play Enemy Territory, but was distracted into general UCCness and unisfa associating. UCC had a visitor tonight, Florian Lohoff. Flo is one of the developers of the linux-mips/mipsel port, and happened to be in Australia on holidays. Had some good conversations about all sorts of stuff, geeky and otherwise.
Which brings me to another point, about my geekness. I actually understood a lot of what Flo said about the kernel and the MIPS architecture in general, and was able to participate, which is .. different.. Usually during tech discussions about stuff like this, I feel a bit snowed under and in over my head, but I'm starting to at least be able to tread water, which is a good sign. I'm still learning stuff. I am pleased by this. I fear my knowledge stagnating. The rational Alex knows I can't know everything about computers, since rational-alex knows exactly what that would entail learning.. but the irrational Alex wants to give it a go anyway. Heh, oh well ;) Keeps me busy.
Today I had an indepth discussion about why kernel 2.4.22 was ok to use, why EE should use MySource content management for it's webpage instead of Zope or Plone, management issues for next year's budget, impressed an academic with my ability to explain a problem with how it related to the 7 layer OSI model, and more! :D Ok, I'm sick. whatevah ;p
