"Wonder if you can pickup my accent on the phone.. I'm in Melbourne still" (With apologies to the Waifs)

We called up the passport info line today and they were very helpful, but gave us the annoying news that we will need to fill in a new application for Liz and pay appropriate fees. Where appropriate is $145 + $65.

The new application will need to be supported by the same types of identifcation as the first one. Fortunately Liz has a drivers license and bank card, however like all sane people, doesn't carry her birth certificate with her. So her parents are going to the passport office in Perth to have it faxed to the passport office in melbourne.

We also need to get new photos and have them signed by a guarantor, who shouldn't be me (though technically it may be able to be). This wasn't a huge issue last time, but since we will have to show an itinerary this time, and it will have my name on it, well yes, it may well be :) Fortunately LisA and Simon Oxwell are both in Melbourne and both qualify in this regard. Hooray for small mercies :D

So, our plan for Monday morning.. get photos taken, get new application form from a post office. Get LisA/Simon to endorse said form and photos, take form to passport office arriving, advise them that the birth certificate will be faxed through from the perth office. Then wait and hope :) When the new passport gets issued, we then need to go to the travel agent again and get new tickets issued (bu-bye $80), then go to JTB and try to get the Ghibli passport number changed or buy new tickets. Then come back here and pack and sleep for a little bit.

Hooray.

According to all the information on the passport status web site, the passport should have been printed and mailed on the 9th, reaching perth on the 11th and us getting it in time. From the 6th onwards, we were a bit worried it hadn't arrived and couldn't change the despatch method, so we assumed it was almost done. By the time Liz got home on friday and found it wasn't there, the eastern states offices of the Passport Office had closed, so the info line couldn't get in contact with anyone, and it was a long weekend everywhere except Perth, so we couldn't get anyone until Tuesday morning. When we called at like 8:20AM on tuesday (6:20AM for us people from perth who'd just got in), the passport was already in the mail.

All would have been ok (but a bit close) except for fricken Australian Air Express losing the package. Gah!
