I just saw this ad on TV. I found it amusing, but I can kinda see why some people might find it offensive. It's basically calling people un-australian for not liking lamb.
Quoting from the linked website: Sam is a popular ex-VFL player who is known for being brash, politically incorrect and very Australian. He is particularly famous for his editorial spits on the ABC TV program “The Fat” which always ended with his trademark line “You know it makes sense. I’m Sam Kekovich”.
But please, the only people who find this kind of advert offensive, are those who have nothing better to do, but to sit on their bums all day long scouring tv, magazines and newspapers for "offensive" things to complain about.
One of the best things about us aussies is our ability to laugh at ourselves...people who find this ad offensive are un-australian ;)
ROFLMAO!! I'd heard about the ad but not seen it on tv even though I hear they were knocked back in their bid to try and get it pulled off the air.
"Pot smoking hippy vegetarians".... ROFLOL!
People who complain about this really have nothing better to do. It's not like the ad incites violence against vegetarians or even discriminates against them. So what, you're call unaustralian. Get over it -- it's obviously an advertising gimmick. Suing over something so ridiculous just makes you look less Australian (American perhaps? where they sue if you look at them the wrong way?).
I love the bit about the 'thongs' too. Nearly choked on my drink.
I don't think I've ever eaten lamb on Australia Day. My family has been in Australia for at least seven generations, and we've always preferred beef for barbeques. I guess I'm un-Australian :P
I have First Fleeter ancestry, and we don't even BBQ on Australia Day :-D In fact it was often a day to get last-minute things finished before school started the next day. Depending on the day of the week it fell on of course. This year school started Monday due to AD falling on a Wednesday.
We usually went to fireworks if we were living where the council was rich enough to sponsor them. :-) It's raining in Brisbane at the moment though, so I don't know if the fireworks will go ahead tomorrow night. They're forecasting rain for the rest of the week!

I'm sure there are people who got offended by it, but perhaps they should attempt to also get an Australian sense of humour.
I think it was cleverly written, a little bit out there, and incredibly well executed. Full marks to those who produced it.

I need to get one of those posters!

Funny ad, blatant racism aside.
