On why I'm not buying any new Macs for a while..

Currently I have the following Apple Computers in general service..

1 x PowerMac G4/400mhz (Mum)
1 x PowerMac G4/450mhz Cube (Office)
1 x iMac G4/700mhz (Kitchen)
1 x PowerBook G4/1.25ghz (Me)
1 x iBook G4/1ghz (Liz)

I don't plan on replacing any of them for a while (except maybe getting a mini to use instead of the Cube) for more than a few reasons. A couple of things.. I think I'd get a laptop, if any, since I use my current one all the time. This means buying a 1.67ghz Powerbook (vs my currently 1.25ghz one) or a 1.83ghz MacBook.

I'd get a MacBook over a PowerBook, mainly due to the speed, except the main thing that my CPU gets used for is Photoshop, and under Rosetta, it would probably run slower than my current Mac. Adobe aren't coming out with a native Intel photoshop until 2007, by which stage the MacBooks will assuredly be faster than they are now. I also will miss my PC Card slot.. I mainly use it to read CF cards from my Camera. I won't miss the Firewire 800, or the modem, but at the same time I'm not thrilled by the iSight built in to it. I will also miss my UJ-815 multiregion DVD-RW drive a lot. So much that it is almost a killer for upgrading. I can't transfer the drive into a macbook, since they need smaller ones.

So for now, I'm going to buy a 160GB drive for the current laptop, whenever they come available here, and bide my time.

I don't use the PC card slot for transferring pictures, I've actually found that any decent (i.e. over $20US) USB to multiple-format flash reader is faster, at least in my dell PC's. YMMV, but moving the 7-9MB .cr2 files from my 20D makes a noticeable difference, depending on where they're being read from.
