So today I dissected the Airport Express.. at first we thought it was just a cap that burnt out, but sadly, it seems not the case. It alas was one of the ICs.. Looks like it flamed-out and singed two capacitors.. so I need a Fairchild Semiconductors DM0265R or DM0265RN (Pb Free) Power IC in DIP8 format to fix it. Anyone have one spare? :D I'll call their distributors tomorrow to see if I can get a sample (this chip is worth US$0.98 if you buy 1000 of them :P), but they are suggesting people use a SOT8 package version now.. boo SOT8.

Oh, and the package isn't reclosable, but I have a cunning plan for a new box for it, but we'll see if I can get another one of these chips.

The datasheet implies the device is non-trivial enough to not be easily replicatable.

Yeah.. that's why I'm hoping Arrow Electronics (Fairchild's AU distributor) has some. Or failing that, one day I'll take another switchmode power supply apart and find one, but that's a bit unlikely, since I'm not in the habit of taking SMPSes apart, since the can be reaaasonably dangerous

I've cracked a few open. The trick is to not work on them while they're plugged in and have a handy-capacitor shorting screwdriver.
