So, Apple likes simplicity in design and product lineup, which is why there are only a few products: mac mini, iMac, Mac Pro, MacBook, MacBook Pro, Macbook Air and the X-Serve. Likewise, iPods have iPod Shuffle, iPod Nano, iPod Classic and iPod Touch, and consumer electronics have the Airport Extreme, Airport Express, Time Capsule and Apple TV.

So that seems like a fairly small product line up, easy to manage. Think again. Apple currently has *33* different iPod SKUs for Australia alone, and actually probably has more like 132 worldwide, as some countries require the volume limiter turned on by default, while in others, they turn it off by default, possibly to reduce CPU and thus battery usage, and the packaging differs between the J(Japan), LL(north america), ZP(Pacific), ZO(Europe) etc versions.

I couldn't possibly get one of each iPod :(

lulz.

I only have the iPod Touch, a 1G 10Gb iPod with dead battery, and a 4Gb mini with a dead battery.

You're not even trying.

In my defence, I only bought the touch. I also have an original shuffle somewhere, that went through the washing machine, then the dryer, that still works.

Hehe cool.

Liz and I had dinner with Lisa D (ex Apple) in Sydney. She gave us the tickets for Taronga Park Zoo.

annoyingly, they now only sell a 120gb classic, and have taken the 160gb out. Which is annoying for those of us who like to have ALL of our music on one device, and foresee getting more music in the future. (i.e. Corrin who wants to have all of his music in Lossless, which takes more space. He was mighty annoyed today)

Yeah, I thought it was a little odd to reduce capacity. I suppose if he wants one, he should buy the old stock of a 160Gb one soon.

He's kind of trying that at the moment: but it seems that they would down distribution of the 160gb quite some time ago.

The problem is that I'm too poor at the moment and by the time I have some money they'll probably be very hard to find. For example the Next Byte chain has one 160GB iPod left; that's for the whole Australia-wide chain. Well, that was at 3:00 this afternoon. It's probably been sold to someone like me by now. I think that Apple had been cutting down on the production of these for a while because they apparently weren't selling very well.

Find the money and let me know ASAP. I have a friend who may be able to find one for you, but the sooner the better (I went to high school with Apple Australia's iPod marketing manager :)

You can buy refurbished ipods from Apple:
http://store.apple.com/133-622/WebObjects/australiastore.woa/9944020/wa/PSLID?sf=wA2HYX4FYK9DXPCFF&nclm=FD5142C7&wosid=sdJ0eY3At2Ai3VfskBDsbwYqG1H

They even have the original shuffle, so the 160GB classic should be available for a while.

I was actually hoping this announcement would bring a LARGER maximum-size iPod, not smaller.
