This morning started with a conversation that went a little like this: "I'll take a photo of it.. wait, wheres the (Canon 450D DSLR) camera?" "Uh, on the train." "Oh, shit."

But, worrying about something like that is like chewing bubblegum to solve an Algebra equation. It was either in Lost Property, or long gone and we'd be making a claim on travel insurance, and no amount of worrying between then and 10AM was going to change anything.

And we had other fish to fry. We were down to reserve underwear, people! As the hotel and vicinity do not seem to have a laundromat, I found a place nearish-by that did wash-and-fold laundry for a.. somewhat reasonable price. Let's say it was worth it to drop it off at 9AM and get it back folded and ready to wear at 4PM, without having to spend hours watching a washer/dryer to do two loads of laundry.

Caught a London Taxi (first time in one!) to the laundry, then wandered from there looking for a tube stop. Found the London Apple Store instead, and pawed at the new Macbook/Macbook Pros. Pondered the Airport Express, but worked out it would be $60 extra compared to Australia, so left empty handed.

Went to Eurostar lost property (which was exciting to find.. basically walk through St Pancaras and into the bus depot behind it..), and found a nice woman who was given the description of the camera, and went off for what seemed like an eternity, before returning, holding in her hands, my wonderful digital SLR and its bag. Colour me relieved. "You're very lucky you know" "Tell me about it!" "But there's not all good news.. it's a £5 fee" "Wonderful! here, take my £5, please!"

Went back to the hotel and showed the relieved Elizabeth. All was well in the world. Went out to Camden Town for lunch. Had a meal at a really tasty asian buffet. Bought new t-shirts (not many). Came home, rested, watched Kung-fu panda on the TV, then headed out to pick up laundry. Caught train over there and taxi back again. Showered, changed, then out to dinner with [livejournal.com profile] ambie01 at Covent Garden.

Met up without too much of a problem, tried without success to get cash out, so Amber paid for dinner (no, don't worry, we'll be fine for money). Thanks Amber :D Fixed Amber's iPhoto library between courses and successfully downloaded photos from her camera onto it. Yay working. Turns out the problem was the ffmpeg library in one of the quicktime third party plugins crashing whenever she tried to import video. Removed plugins and advised to use VLC for video playback, which was already what she was doing. Had a good time. Proof of life photo on Facebook.

Tomorrow's plans: Brunch with my cousin Chris, Dr Who walk with LisA and [livejournal.com profile] sammers, followed by Afternoon tea, then dinner with Elizabeth's godfather.

The best £5 you'll spend in London, I'd wager!

That's so good that someone handed your camera in!

I'm afraid I'm gonna have to pull out of today, I've woken up feeling like shit - must've picked something up from the train or something :P

A miracle!! But then, if it's Eurostar, that's probably why - better class of passenger. If it had been on a commuter train or other public transport, you'd have had less of a chance.

Great news though!

I'll say! Eurostar apparently do a security sweep of the trains after each run, and as we got off at the terminus station, that is why it was picked up.

I bet you worried anyway, though! :o)

I was actually surprised at how calm I was. Maybe it was the prospect of using the insurance money to buy one of the twin-lens kit versions that was keeping me calm.

When in London, do as the Londoners do and leave expensive technology and/or sensitive personal information on the train.
