So, new Mac mini.

Apple sent me an email today with it sitting pretty in front of the new-ish 24 inch display. The LCD is pretty awesome. Not cheap, but awesome. It has a built in power supply with magsafe connector, so you can use the display to power your Mac laptop while it is plugged into the beast.

The new Mac mini has a mini-display port on the back of it, so the display port cable from the display can just plug in. Likewise the USB cable. Which leaves the Magsafe Power cable from the display just flapping in the wind, meanwhile the Mac mini is powered by the same crack smoking Mac mini power connector and PSU it always has been.

It strikes me that shifting the Mac mini's power connector to Magsafe would have been a nice touch. Remove the need for an extra PSU on the desk with the display, enable them to reuse the 85W magsafe PSU they include with every MacBook Pro with the Mac mini, which would help with service and build SKU management.

And if anyone from Apple reads this, I've read your policy on unsolicited idea submissions. I'm not after money, just make the change :P

I can't say I agree with you. MagSafe works on laptops because they have batteries. It's pretty easy to knock a MagSafe connector out (by design), so I imagine that would get pretty frustrating on a computer powered directly from the mains.
