On the new MacBook Pro :D
So, as previously detailed, our orderly departure from Perth was screwed up by some piece of shit breaking into our place and stealing our MacBooks (Eliz's alum one and my older MBP), my precious coins and generally screwing with our stuff.
I'm so so glad it was covered by mum's contents insurance, or it could have been a very shitty start to our holiday. Anyway, now we're out of Perth, I feel better about actually talking about dealing with it all without fear someone is going to steal the new ones too (paranoia right? when/if you get yours stolen, tell me it doesn't happen to you too).
We got robbed on wednesday, claim started and approved thursday morning, got quotes for new laptops sorted out on thursday afternoon, and new laptops by the following wednesday (we could have got elizabeth's on tuesday, but elected to get them both at the same time). In the meantime, we packed and timeshared a plucky little iBook G3 700mhz with faulty USB ports.
Data-wise, Elizabeth lives in the Cloud, so didn't lose much, and my last backups were from March 30, which was a bit of a pain, since it seems GMail won't let you redownload stuff. But at least I know it's up there to search if I need sometime.. I was able to recover all the digital photos I remember taking, using PhotoRescue, meaning pretty much I'm back at 99% integrity, which is good enough.
The insurance company (RAC) worked with a supplier who felt the only way they could supply me with a 4GB/500GB config in time for our departure was to give me a top of the line 2.8ghz channel config. Awww. Also we had to get the new ones, with SD card slots. Also, since they stole the two macs with CS3 activated on them, I had to get a new copy of CS4. Aww.
The new screen is amazing, in terms of colour gamut.. it really is noticable. The only bad thing is the floppyness of it, if it's more than about 10 degrees from vertical, it will fall closed, which makes it a pain to use while lounging around. Will have to find the Vancouver Apple store and see if they can do anything aboot it.

BTW, I was talking to my partner last night about how you're Very Pleased with the new Macbook Pro, except for that screen shutting thing, and apparently it's a known issue. Did you find that when you went into the store?

More shop talk.. can Eliz transfer Applecare from her stolen MacBook to her new 13 inch MacBook Pro?

Once you have this, call Apple in whichever country you are in and go through to tech support or warranties and say you want to transfer your APP. They should create a case, give you the number and details for you to email/fax your required documentation though

I had a bit of a look at a 17 inch matt at the Apple Store today.. I prefer the look of the glossy.
