Screw you Paypal..

Due to security reasons, PayPal only allows one country address per PayPal account. When moving from country to country, you must close your existing account and open a new account in the country where you are residing.

Sigh. Of course, I don't have a Canadian credit card, which means I won't be able to open a Canadian PayPal account, and I think I can bet my ass that they won't let me open a Canadian PayPal account with an Australian credit card..

Which means, I suspect, my eBay purchases will have to go via Australia.. bleh.

Surely, SURELY in the effort it took them to write that statement, they could have added a "change country" feature.

(though... why must your ebay purchases go through Aus? Can't you have your ebay address correct and contact sellers to make sure they send to the one listed in ebay rather than paypal?)

Unfortunately a lot of vendors will now only ship to your paypal verified address. I can understand why they'd do something like this, but it's a pain

You *should* be able to change your email address on your existing paypal or ebay, and then create a new paypal to line up with the ebay without giving up your old paypal.

As to opening a Canadian paypal - I'm not sure if a prepaid MC/Visa would help since paypal wouldn't be able to do address verification against them. If you have $10k spare for a year or so, you could get a secured MC/Visa, otherwise you should be able to get a debit MC/Visa?

You can? I can't understand why they'd make it unnecessarily hard to use cash or cash equivalent to make a positive payment balance to ship anything you want to any address you want.

does paypal let you use prepaid credit cards? i know you can buy prepaid mastercards at shoppers, i think in $100 amts but then you can refill them online.

or what about linking your bank account to paypal?

Do Canadian banks have the debit Mastercard thing going yet? Why am I thinking I had a debit Visa through the RBC there... I might not have. That could be a way to get around it.

This might sound like a silly question, but can't you just open a new paypal account with a different email address? Doesn't get you past the lack of credit card though...
