(no subject)

Well.. I arrived in Batavia mostly safely.. just late and stuff. Heh!

Crash on QEW stopped us still for an hour. We had almost made up the time, when we hit the US border.. There were 5 of us. Easy right? No.. one of us (not me!) had previously been deported from the US for overstaying. He was Canadian and had spent 17 years in Florida before they found him. I kinda think he was gay, what with florida and all that, and so I have sympathy that there's nothing he could have done, but that's another story. Anyway, so I had thought I wouldn't make the connecting bus to Batavia from Buffalo, so called and said I wouldn't be in till tomorrow, so don't wait for me. But when we got to Buffalo, the bus was going to be the Batavia bus, so I got there anyway. But because it was already like 40 mins late, didn't have a layover, or any food or any time to get out US money.. so I arrived in Batavia with noone to greet me and no local money. Since it was a local call, collect calls wouldn't work, and when I tried my calling card from AU, it wouldn't work either, cause it wasn't enabled for international calling. Annnnyway.. got an Australian operator to call mom and get her to call the person here to get me. I then called mum back and had a chat until she arrived. But those 40 mins trying to get thru to the person myself sucked seriousdly. Unk.

My great aunt has a Dell running XP. She's like 84. Cool :)

m33p!

just outta curiousity ... what does him being gay have to do with violating immigration laws?

I was going to ask what it had to do with Florida :)

That was question #2 ... didn't wanna push it :)

i took it to mean that possibly his lover was down in florida, and as a result, they really had no other way to stay together other than violating immigration laws. but i could very easily be wrong about that :)

as for what it has to do with florida, that's all in alex's head. can't help you there :)

Hah yes, I didn't have time to explain it.. was a bit rushed when I posted that last night. [livejournal.com profile] jphoenix was right.. I suspect he was in a relationship there, and because unlike canada, the US doesn't recognise same sex relationships, the only way he could stay was illegally. He was "meeting his friend from Florida" in Buffalo.

And as for the Florida/gay connection.. I wasn't conciously trying to make one, but on that subject, I've heard that west palm beach is particuarlly "pink friendly". But yeah :)

Yes :) I'm about a third of the way thru it.. just part the bit where Tom rescues them from the barrow-man. I would have read more, but once we got held up on the QEW, I was distracted by thoughts of what I was going to do that night, so couldn't concentrate. Tomorrow on the way to NYC will be better :)

adventure!

[identity profile] theducks.livejournal.com 2002-05-09 08:54 am (UTC)(link)
Freezing cold in the middle of nowhere with no local money is not my usual idea of adventure, but yeah close enough :)

Of course I had like C$140, but fat lot of good that would have been :>

Hehe, certainly sounds like you had quite the adventure.
